St. John’s Youth Group

The Youth Group is made up of young adults from grades 7th through 12th grade. We meet one Sunday each month from September through June to have a Bible lesson and discussion. In general, there is also one monthly activity or outing. Some fun activities we have done as a group include bowling, a trip to Dave & Buster’s arcade, a winter swim night at Echo Park, and our annual lock-in – when we sleep over at the church and have pizza, play games, watch a movie, and in general have a great time!

We also work together to help our church and community. In the past, we’ve prepared a lunch for workers of Habitat For Humanity. We’ve hosted a “Soup-er-bowl Sunday” – a soup & salad luncheon – where we collected canned food for the food pantry and donated money to families in need, and also to the Barbara Semmig Scholarship fund. There’s been a car wash that helped Toys of Hope and the Freeport Animal Shelter, and a Giving Tree Program at Christmas to help collect gifts for families in need during the holidays. We’ve also donated boxes of supplies to the soldiers overseas in Iraq. These are just some of the many ways we are trying to do God’s work to help others.
